Former Prime Ministerial Candidate for the People’s Progressive Party Civic, Elisabeth Harper has indicated that she is ready and willing to serve the PPPC as a Member of Parliament if the offer is made to her.

In a Sunday morning telephone interview with News Source, Ms. Harper said the PPP has not extracted names from its list of candidates as yet to decide who its new Members of Parliament will be. However, Ms. Harper pointed out that she is a “principled person” and therefore if asked to serve, she will be honored to continue to play a role in the development and governance of the country.

“I am a principled person and I am still aligned to the PPP. So if they ask me to serve, I will serve”.

Asked if she would accept an offer from the new government in an official position,  Harper said she would first have to understand what the President really means when he speaks of inclusionary democracy and governance.

“I have seen that President Granger has extended a hand of cooperation to the former President. Well we have to see where that goes and what exactly that cooperation would entail”, she said.

10408123_1058914590791533_920377900315394714_nHarper left her job as Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to join the PPP ticket as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.  She said though she has no regrets over that decision, she feels more disappointed for the supporters of the party than she feels for herself.

“I keep remembering those faces in the crowds. All those people who thought that their party would have won. All of their hope and expectations. I am disappointed for them.”

Ms. Harper made it clear that she has no plans to leave Guyana. She said she is prepared and ready to serve the country, pointing out that she would still like to work on many of the issues that formed part of her campaigning.

The former PM Candidate had indicated that she wanted to strengthen the fight against domestic violence while offer support for the development of women and women related issues.

She is hoping that she will be presented with the national platform to continue looking at the issues.

The People’s Progressive Party won 32 of the 65 seats in the National Assembly. The party is expected to meet in the new week to begin extracting names of candidates who will go on to become Member of Parliament.
