Housing Ministry now says its only reviewing land allocations

Facing a backlash over plans to revoke land allocations made between January and July of this year, the Ministry of Housing is clarifying that it is only reviewing the allocations and would not want allottees to make additional payments on their lands at this time.

In a statement last evening, the Housing Ministry said it is concerned that the allocations were part of a political gimmick because they took place in the lead up and just after elections.

The Ministry claims that it has received some complaints from allottees that they were allocated lands that they are still to identify and that was part of the reason for the launching of the review.

Housing Minister Collin Croal said the ownership of the lands allocated remain in limbo and it is important for the review to be done.

Now, Minister Croal is assuring the persons who were allocated the lands and who have already made payments, that the status of their applications will not be affected by the review.

His statement came last evening after the APNU+AFC accused the government of wanting to take away the lands from ordinary citizens and sell them off to housing developers.

The APNU+AFC said it is aware that lands are available and plans were in place for the development of several housing areas.
