A West Bank Demerara ice cream vendor is nursing a wound to one of his thighs after he was shot during a robbery in the Sophia community.
The 33-year-old vendor was in the company of his manager as they drove through the Sophia community on Sunday to sell ice cream.
The pair came under attack along Red Road in D’ Field, Sophia when they stopped to make a sale to a woman.
According to a police report, while the men were transacting the sale of ice cream, two men on a motorcycle approached them and demanded money.
The ice cream truck driver was relieved of $10,000 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at $25,000.
The two men were then ordered out of the truck and told to lie on the road.
As they cooperated and laid on the roadway, one of the bandits shot the driver to his left thigh, as they escaped on their motorcycle.
An alarm was raised, but the bandits were already gone by the time Police arrived.
The Police said the injured driver was treated at a city hospital. A number of persons in the area were questioned, but there have been no arrests.
Investigations are ongoing.
