A Joint Services operation is continuing in Linden and other Region 10 areas following the armed confrontation with two prison escapees last week, which resulted in one of the escapees being shot dead.
The escapee who managed to escape, Royden Williams aka Royden Durant, is still believed to be hiding out in Linden. There are reports that at least one other escapee is believed to be hiding out in Linden in the mining area.
A Rastafarian “High Priest”, who is suspected of harbouring the escapees, remains under arrest and will face likely charges soon.
Three escapees remain on the run and the Guyana Police Force, continues to rely on citizens to assist them with any information that could lead to the arrest of the escapees.
Escapee, Uree Varswyck, was shot dead by members of the Joint Services during an armed confrontation last Friday morning at Amelia’s Ward in Linden.
Some members of his family have raised concern about whether he was really shot dead during an armed confrontation. They had earlier encouraged him to turn himself in just after the jailbreak.
Varswyck was the escapee who was fingered as the mastermind of the July prison escape. It was also suspected that he was the one who shot the prison officer dead during the Sunday afternoon escape from the Camp Street jail. A number of prison officers and other prisoners identified him as the one with the gun leading the escape.
He was on the run since then and always seemed to be one step ahead of Police during their various operations to recapture the escapees.
Varswyck was a former member of the Guyana Police Force, who was well trained in the handling of high powered weapons.
