He wanted to get the marijuana into the prison, but instead has found himself going in to the prison as a guest of the state.
61-year-old, Leopold Street resident, Ishwar Persaud, was today remanded to prison after he was charged with attempting to smuggle marijuana into the Camp Street prison.
He appeared before Magistrate, Judy Latchman and entered a plea of not guilty, after the charge was read to him.
The charge stated that on the August 31st, he had 20 grammes of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The Police Prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Persaud visited the prison to deliver food for one of the prisoners, but when a search was carried out in his presence, the quantity of Marijuana was found stashed in his shoes.
He was immediately arrested and charged. Today the man appeared confused as he was remanded to prison and told that his next appearance will be on September 18, 2017.
