A young driver from the mining town of Linden lost his life tragically this morning in a smash-up that involved a sand truck on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The dead man has been identified as 31-year-old Keiran Warner of Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
According to reports, the accident occurred in the vicinity of Loo Creek along the highway at around 6:30 this morning.
Warner was the driver and only occupant in a small nissan motorcar. He was heading to Linden when the tragedy occurred.
According to reports, the sand truck was proceeding north along the western drive lane of the highway, when the car that was being driven by Warner in the opposite direction suddenly swerved into the truck’s path and collided with the truck.
The impact of the collision ripped the car apart, leaving warner pinned in the car under a section of the truck, which had ended up off the roadway. The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigators arrived on the scene and questioned a number of eyewitnesses, who provided various details of the collision.
A breathalyzer test was administered to the driver of the truck, but there was no trace of alcohol found in his system. However, he was taken into custody as a full investigation has been launched.
The accident victim, Keiran Warner, worked at the Linden Hospital in the the Transportation Services Department. In a statement, the hospital said he will be remembered for his dedication, and the role he played in supporting the work of healthcare workers within the community.
