Missing 9-year-old boy found murdered

The badly battered body of 9-year-old Shaquan Gittens was found on Saturday afternoon in a canal in the North Ruimveldt area, a short distance from where he lived.

The body was found close to the cane fields just beyond Caneview Avenue.

Family members have been left traumatized by the boy’s death and how he may have met his demise. According to police sources, the lad was found with his hands and feet tied and from early investigations, he may have been sexually abused before being murdered and dumped into the canal.

Gittens was reported missing on Wednesday after he did not return home from an early afternoon of kite flying in the street. He was in the care of an older brother who reportedly remained at home while the 9-year-old played with his kite in the same street.

The incident has sent shock waves throughout the North Ruimveldt community and many residents who knew the young boy said they are just left in shock and horror at his demise.

“This one hit us real hard. I don’t know what really going on in this place”, a neighbour told News Source as other family members and friends gathered at the home where the lad lived.

Police investigators were on the scene up to late Saturday afternoon hoping to find some clues that might lead them to the boy’s killer.
