Police arrest PPP activist Jason Abdulla as Crum-Ewing murder probe continues

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has confirmed the arrest of PPP activist and Freedom House employee, Jason Abdulla as investigators continue to probe the March 2015 murder of political activist, Courtney Crum-Ewing.

Crum-Ewing was gunned down on March 10, 2015 while using a loud hailer in the Diamond community to encourage persons to vote against the PPP. His murder has always been seen as politically motivated. He had led a protest for several weeks outside the office of the Attorney General at the time, Anil Nandlall.

One man has already been charged in connection with the murder but investigators believe others might be linked to the case.

News Source understands that Abdulla was arrested late on Monday and taken in to custody for questioning. The People’s Progressive Party has described the arrest as a witch hunt. He worked at the Office of the President under the PPP civic government and overlooked a “quick response” unit that was used to attack critics of the then government on social media. He was fired and the unit disbanded when the government changed in May 2015.

Police sources familiar with the probe have told News Source that he has always been considered as a person of interest. He is expected to remain in custody for the rest of today.
