Ranks from the Guyana Police Force (GPF)’s Major Crimes Unit on Tuesday found two handguns in a barrel that had been shipped to Guyana.
The police were notified after authorities at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) became suspicious when the unclaimed barrel was left on the wharf without being claimed for several months.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told News Source that when ranks emptied the barrel just after noon on Tuesday, an engine was initially found.
Upon closer examination, two handguns were found concealed in the engine.
Ranks then went to the address to where the barrel was shipped and arrested a man. A search of the house led investigators to find a third handgun.
Blanhum did not reveal the address to which the barrel was shipped, the name of the person arrested or the country from which it came.
An investigation has been launched.
