The Guyana Police Force has clarified to News Source that the cocaine that has gone missing from the Narcotics Branch of the Police Force is related to the case involving ex-policeman Travis Mendonca and not the Seeta Rampersaud case.
Mendonca was recently sentenced to three years in jail after admitting to attempting to ferry out just over three pounds of cocaine in a suitcase.
Acting Crime Chief, Paul Williams, told News Source that the matter is still being probed and it involves the cocaine that was seized from the ex-policeman from Linden.
When contacted about the case earlier today, Police Commissioner (ag) David Ramnarine, had told News Source that the missing cocaine probe was related to a woman who was recently jailed for four years. The only such recent case involved 59-year-old Seeta Rampersaud.
Sources close to the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit told News Source that it was clear that the Police Commissoner might have gotten mixed up with the recent cases, since the case involving Seeta was a CANU case and all of the evidence in that case remains in tact.
Meanwhile, the Police Force is still seeking the whereabouts of a Plaisance businessman in connection with the Travis Mendonca cocaine matter. It is suspected that the businessman was the person who supplied Mendonca with the drug laden suitcase.
