Police investigators are trying to reach a number of persons who were trapped in the New Building Society headquarters yesterday, as the bank locked its doors during that levy standoff that went on for over two hours.

Several customers who were allowed to leave through the back of the building before the standoff ended, left the scene before investigators arrived.

Those are the persons that the investigators want to interview as they build a wrongful imprisonment case against the NBS.

Deputy Commander for A’ Division, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum told News Source this morning that “every effort” is being made to contact the persons.

He said once all statements are taken, the file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Last evening, the Police took six managers of the company along with security guards into custody as the standoff ended. They were eventually released on station bail.

In an effort to prevent a$59 Million High Court levy yesterday, NBS locked down its headquarters. There was no way in and those who were already on the inside, could not come out.

Some persons who were inside explained to News Source just after the standoff, that they were not allowed to leave and had been held against their will by the NBS.

The NBS is not saying who gave the order to shut down the building in an effort to avoid the levy.

The move to levy assets of the NBS came as it refused to honour a High Court judgment for the wrongful dismissal of its former CEO, Maurice Arjoon.

That judgement came down in July last year.  The NBS eventually wrote a check to the former CEO yesterday in the sum that is owed to him.
