President David Granger launched his re-election campaign this afternoon with a call for the APNU+AFC coalition to remain in office because inclusive governance is what is needed to move Guyana forward.

Mr. Granger shared this view during the launch of the APNU+AFC campaign at D’Urban Park in Georgetown.

“We have put an end to winner take all politics. There is room for everybody in the big Benab; no more winner takes all” the Presidential candidate shared to a roaring round of applause.

The APNU+AFC coalition which comprises six political parties was formed ahead of the 2015 elections with the intention of eroding the winner takes all political culture.

The APNU members comprise the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), the Guyana Action Party (GAP) the Justice for All Party (JFAP); the National Front Alliance (NFA), the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) and the Alliance for Change (AFC).

But beyond shared governance, Granger outlined some of his party’s plans for Guyana, which he said are geared towards benefitting current and future generations.

“We have a plan. We are building back the economy. We are protecting the environment. We have a plan. We are opening enterprise for young people. We have a plan. We are ensuring every child is in school. We have a plan,” he said.

“Guyanese will never be poor again. That oil wealth belongs to you” the Presidential candidate posited, before reminding Guyanese that his recently launched ‘Decade of Development’ agenda will guarantee same.

According to the President, the revenues to be derived from the oil industry will directly benefit each Guyanese over the next ten years and that will be realized in a number of ways.

“We have made a pledge that every child will go to school. We will make sure that every young person going to school will have a job after leaving school. We are going to convert to solar and gas,” he said, pleading with Guyanese to give the coalition another opportunity to do same.

He continued that “We inherited a messed up environment. We are trying to clean up the dirt. We are going to protect the environment and the earth that was neglected” he said, adding that the indigenous people of Guyana cannot be neglected.

Additionally, he said that constitutional reform will be high on the agenda of an APNU+AFC government.

The coalition initiated the process for Constitutional reform upon assumption to office in 2015, but was never able to implement the recommendations provided in the report.

The President said there has been steady progress under his government despite efforts to throw its development plan off course.

Thousands attended the APNU+AFC campaign launch as the coalition of parties push for their re-election.
