Rosignol youth charged for murder of fellow villager

After being on the run for over three months, 20-year-old labourer Shane Samaroo called ‘Tanta Boy’ of Rosignol Village, West Coast Berbice was today charged with the stabbing death of a Rossignol Man back in August.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court and was not required to enter a plea to the charge.

According to the Court charge sheet, it is alleged that on August 19, 2021, at Bennet Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), Samaroo murdered Faroze Khan called ‘Eggy’.

Samaroo was remanded to prison until December 20, 2021, when he will appear at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court for the continuation of the matter.

The murder took place back in August outside a shop in the Rosignol community. It is unclear what led to a confrontation between the two men, but investigators were told that Khan was attacked and badly beaten and stabbed by the accused. He went on the run just after the crime.

The man was arrested by Police ranks in the Mibicuri Backlands in Corentyne, earlier this week after investigators received reports that he was hiding out in the area with his mother.

The man’s mother is expected to face charges over harbouring him while he was wanted for murder.
