Three days of community service and $30,000 fine for American man who arrived at CJIA with marijuana joints

An American man who arrived at the Cheddi Jagan Airport from New York with several joints of marijuana in his possession, weighing 16.6 grams has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and has been sentenced to community service and fined $30,000.

The man, Delroy Juliys Seaforth, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman today at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court and immediately pleaded guilty to the drug trafficking charge.

He was nabbed at the airport two days ago with the marijuana joints just after he stepped off a plane from the US.

Using recently passed legislation which prohibits custodial sentences for small amounts of marijuana, the Magistrate sentenced Seaforth to three days of community service and fined him $30,000.

Seaforth arrived in Guyana for the funeral of a relative.
