Three vendors arrested over sale of firecrackers at Stabroek Market

Three women who worked as vendors at the Stabroek Market were arrested on Saturday for the illegal possession and sale of firecrackers and other explosive devices.

The move to arrest the vendors formed part of a Police crackdown on the sale of the firecrackers and squibs in time for the Diwali celebrations tonight and tomorrow.

Many citizens have repeatedly complained about the loud squibs and firecrackers that would overshadow various celebrations, in addition to pet-owners complaining about the impact the sound would have on their animals.

The Police announced the arrest of 31-year-old Alisha Adans, 30-year-old Kishwana David and 26-year-old Shondell Alexander.

The Police said the arrest took place during a raid of the market and the three women were taken into custody at the Brickdam Police station while all of their squibs and firecrackers have been seized.

Charges could be filed against them in the new week.
