Three Venezuelan labourers in custody over murder of Corentyne man

Police investigators in Berbice have arrested three Venezuelan men, who have been working as labourers in the Corentyne area, for the alleged murder of 43-year-old Corentyne resident, Chetram Ramjattan.

The man’s body was discovered this morning in a pond with multiple stab wounds. It appeared as though he was murdered and later dumped in the pond.

The man was last seen alive on Sunday afternoon when he visited a relative’s home.

Family members became concerned when they could not make any contact with the 43-year-old and several searches for him came up empty handed.

A missing person’s report was filed yesterday by the family, according to the Police.

The Police said when the man’s body was found this morning, there were stab wounds to his neck, as well as chop wounds to the head and other parts of the body.

A post-mortem examination is to be conducted.

The Police said based on its investigations and information it received, three persons were arrested, ages 31, 32 and 34-years-old.

The Police said the three are all labourers from Chesney Village, Corentyne and are originally from Venezuela. The murdered man also worked as a labourer in the same community.
