A Father and son were today sentenced to a total of 85 years behind bars after being convicted for the 2015 murder of their neighbour.
The murder was the result of an argument over a plot of a land.
At the High Court this morning, 54-year-old Sukhdeo Dharamdat was sentenced to 65 years in jail for his part in the murder. The son, 25-year-old Eshwardat Dharamdat was slapped with a 20 year jail sentence.
The two men showed no emotions as they were led off from Courthouse to begin their jail sentence.
It was on the 23rd February 2015 that the family’s neighbour was clearing a plot of land that had been granted to him by the Court.
The man was approached by one of the men and an argument started between them.
It was during the fight that the father along with two of his sons savagely beat the man to death. All three were charged with the murder, but one of the sons died in the Camp Street prison fire, while awaiting his trial.
