Firemen rushed to the scene of an early morning blaze at the corner of Camp and Durban Streets in Georgetown on Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire began just after 1am and quickly ripped through the Chinese restaurant located on Durban Street and quickly spread to the Supreme restaurant which is located just next door.
The two buildings were completely gutted and it is believed that the fire began in the kitchen of the Chinese restaurant. Neighbours said there were a number of loud explosions during the fire which they believe were gas tanks. Both restaurants are located next to the Camp Street prison. Police also came out in their numbers to cordon off the area as the firemen battled the blaze.
