Two men are missing and feared dead following a boat mishap in the Upper Mazaruni river on Thursday.
The two missing men have been identified as 29-year-old Terrence Thomas of Meadow Brook Gardens in Georgetown and 34-year-old Jermain La Rose of Canvas City Linden.
A police statement said the two men were among a group of persons traveling in a boat in the Upper Mazaruni river when the boat suddenly started to take in water and sank.
The men were reportedly heading to Kako village to conduct surveying work and were traveling in a boat owned by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.
The Captain of the boat said the two men panicked when the boat started to sink and jumped overboard and attempted to swim to shore.
It wasn’t until he got to shore along with another man that it was discovered that the two men did not make it.
The boat was also transporting several drums of fuel at the time. A full police investigation has been launched.
