Two Guyanese among four busted in Brazil with 50 lbs marijuana

Two Guyanese along with two Brazilians were on Monday last arrested in Boa Vista, Brazil for drug trafficking after some 25 kilos of marijuana were found stashed in the doors of a vehicle they were traveling in when it was intercepted.

The four persons were identified as 34 – year old Eric Eldon Bobb and 38 – year – old Clyve Lloyd King, both of Guyana and Brazilians José Rodrigues Montague, 58, and Marlene Magdalene Romao, 39 years.

The four accused were charged for trafficking and association for trafficking and later admitted to the Penitentiary Agricultural Monte Cristo in Brazil. The woman was referred to the Public Women Jail.

According to reports the vehicle originated from Guyana.

Brazil authorities say they received an anonymous tip that there was going to be supply of the drugs to the city of Boa Vista during the carnival. The drug was referred for weighing to the Institute of Criminology and confirmed the weight of 25 pounds.

Reports out of Brazil indicate that a gang was bringing drug from Guyana and selling to distribution points in Boa Vista.

Brazilian authorities say they have knowledge that in addition to this interception there are other loads to be transported to Boa Vista, with other members of this gang and we are already investigating and seeking to arrest more people.

“The teams are still on the street in steps and we believe that we will have new prisoners and new seizures. The members of this gang have a very specific behavior, they are very cautious, always go with the striker, who is the person who runs the front of the car that brings the drug in order to identify if there are police doing monitoring in ways that will pass and so warn, to avoid being caught,” a Brazilian Drug Enforcement Officer explained.

Brazil said it is not a producer of cocaine or marijuana and consequently the drug enters the country through neighboring countries and to combat this will be paying attention to sales points there, the supply and the drug corridor route.
