Urling defends Blue CAPS against Priya’s attacks

Newly minted People’s Progressive Party/Civic Candidate Clinton Urling does not appear pleased with recent statements made by another PPP/Civic Candidate about the youth organization that Urling founded and headed up to March of this year.

On her Facebook page on Tuesday, Education Minister Priya Manickchand in an effort to defend Urling from criticism over his decision to join the PPP, declared that the Blue CAPS organization and its supporters are anti-PPP and have always been anti-PPP.

She quipped “It seems from these cries and venom being spewed now that these Blue Caps supporter folks were always anti PPP. Their “cause” was to be anti PPP. So to join the PPP is a betrayal of that cause. Hence the heavy criticisms of Urling. Who started up this anti PPP group again? Interesting times.”

Urling has always maintained that the organization is apolitical and is more focused on ensuring Guyana’s youths have a voice in the democratic process. In response to Manickchand’s rant, Urling told News Source that her statements could not have been farther from the truth.  Clinton-Urling

“I am the founder of Blue CAPS and Blue CAPS has always had as its main tenets, community service, leadership training and development and policy advocacy. That organization even though I am not at the helm anymore still remains that”.

The recently installed Chairman of Blue Caps, Michael Leonard responded to Manickchand’s statement and said “for the record, no Blue Caps member has labeled Urling a sell out or has called for a boycott”.

He said all members of his organization are free to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to join any political party or form their own party should they desire.

Leonard added that Blue Caps aims to increase youth participation in decision-making and leadership, especially the political process.
