Urling throws support behind PPP; declares it is the “party of the future”

City businessman and former President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry,Clinton Urling has announced that he will be throwing his political support behind the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic which he has described as the party of the future.

Mr. Urling also confirmed to News Source that he will be on the PPP’s list of candidates for the elections when that list is handed in to the Guyana Elections Commission on Tuesday afternoon as part of the Nomination Day process.

Urling who manages his family business, The German’s Restaurant which is best known for its soup and creole dishes, explained to News Source on Tuesday that he decided to go with the PPP Civic because he believes the party offers the best development plan for the youths of Guyana.

Asked about his reasons for joining the PPP Civic for the elections, Urling said “the two main reasons are I believe that the PPP is the party of the future and it is more likely to include young people and the other one would be that I think they are better suited for Guyana’s economic advancement.”

He said he will offer more insight into his decision as the campaign moves on. The businessman has been relatively quiet since he walked away from the Blue Caps organisation which he formed in 2014 as a non governmental organization, apolitical organization.

Members of that organization were left surprised back in March when Urling tendered his resignation as Chairman of the group to pursue his political dreams. He had denied earlier reports that he had political ambitions and that the setting up of the youth group Blue Caps was to primarily launch his political ambitions and to ensure that he remained relevant after he left the Presidency of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.

News Source understands that before Urling settled on his decision to join the PPP, he held discussions with the Opposition coalition and shared his views about where he wants to see Guyana while making clear his expectations should he join the coalition.

Over the past few weeks, he held discussions with his close friends and some members of the Diplomatic community about his decision to join the PPP’s list of candidates. Those discussions came after several meeting with leading members of the PPP Civic.

Over the weekend, it became clearer that Urling had made a decision when he converted his personal Facebook page into a sponsored Public Figure profile page and removed himself from the Blue Caps WhatsAPP group without any explanation to the other members. Although he removed himself as Chairman of the group, he had promised to remain as a Board member and assist the group with its ongoing work.

On his Facebook page on Nomination Day, Urling quoted late US President John Kennedy who once said “There are risks & costs to a program of action – but far less than the long-range risks & costs of comfortable inaction”
