US Congressman to visit Guyana for Independence celebrations and meetings with Govt. officials

The Government of Guyana has announced that Democratic US Congressman, Jonathan Jackson of Illinois is scheduled to visit Guyana from the 25th to 28th May 2024, at the invitation of President Irfaan Ali. 

In a statement, the Government said the Congressman’s visit is one of several visits of high-ranking US officials to Guyana in recent times and is testament to the strong Guyana- US partnership at various levels of government.

During his visit, the Congressman will be participating in the flag raising ceremony that will be held in Linden on the eve of Guyana’s 58th Independence Anniversary, and he is also expected to meet with President Ali and members of his Cabinet. Additionally, Congressman Jackson is expected to engage the private and business sector to explore trade and investment opportunities. 

Congressman Jonathan Jackson represents Illinois’ First Congressional District of the United States Congress and is a leading member of the Congressional Black Caucus. He also serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Agriculture.

Congressman Jackson is the son of US civil rights leaders Rev. Jesse Jackson and Jacqueline Jackson.
