Acting on a tip-off, CANU agents were able to seize 120 pounds of marijuana that was being transported in a Route 50 mini-bus on Saturday along the East Coast railway embankment.
In a statement last evening, the drug enforcement agency announced the arrest of 58-year-old driver Lal Bahadur Byjoo of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.
The agency said after it received information about the transportation of the illegal drug, it was able to intercept the mini-bus. Searches of the bus unearthed several large parcels of marijuana.
The driver and the more than 100 pounds of marijuana were taken to the CANU headquarters as investigations were launched.
The 58-year-old driver is expected in Court this week on drug trafficking charges.
