Woman who attacked teacher now under probe for attack on husband’s university classmate

The woman who is accused of attacking and beating a teacher at her son’s primary school two weeks ago is back on the Police radar for attacking another woman, even as the probe into the attack on the teacher is ongoing.

25-year-old University of Guyana second-year student Emily Emon came under attack from the woman, Charmaine Mendonca on Friday evening.

The incident took place at the headquarters of the Guyana Defence Force as University student waited in the office of Mendonca’s husband who is a Major in the GDF and a classmate of the young woman who was waiting in his office.

The traumatized UG student was at the Alberttown Police Station this afternoon to follow up on a report that she filed against the woman who assaulted her.

The young woman explained that she is in a study group with the woman’s husband and was at his Camp Ayanganna office for a study session early on Friday evening when the wife barged into the office and started to attack her.

She said she had never seen the woman before but the woman grabbed her and started to beat her, while making accusations about an affair with the husband.

“When she walked into the room, she scrambled me and I held onto her hand. And she kept saying that she heard I am having an affair (with her husband) and I kept telling her that I do not have any affair with him and she started to butt me and I continued to hold onto her hands and then she started to bite me and I still wasn’t losing her hands as she was trying to get something to hit me and she shoved me to the ground and started to choke me”, the UG student recounted.

She said while all of this was taking place, the woman’s husband was not in the office and she was the only one there at the time. The young lady said eventually in an effort to fight the woman off, she pushed her against a wall in the office and explained to her that she was not having an affair with the husband and she needed to stop attacking her.

“I braced her to the wall and I said listen to me, I am not having an affair with your husband”, she further recounted.

She said as she attempted to calm the woman down, she eventually loosed her hands and it was then that the woman grabbed a glass that was in the office, broke it and slashed her over her forehead.

The young lady recounted that it was at that stage that two soldiers who might have heard the commotion came running into the office. They were followed moments later by the woman’s husband who attempted to get medical help for his University colleague at the Army’s medical centre but had to eventually take the young woman to a private hospital as the bleeding continued from the cut above her left eye.

The young University student was treated for the gash to her forehead, bite marks to her arms and other injuries.

She filed a police report even as her University classmate, the GDF Officer, has refused to give the Police a statement in the matter that is being probed against his wife.

The University student said the incident has left her completely traumatized and scared as the woman has since turned up at the Turkeyen campus asking around for her and was spotted driving slowly behind her as she headed to a class on Monday.

The scared young lady said she wants a full police investigation and wants to see charges laid against the woman over the assault that she said stemmed from a false accusation.

Police investigators intend to question the woman even as they await the advice from the Office of the DPP in the other assault case pending against her.
