Police refuse bail for GECOM Deputy CEO over refusal to answer questions on election probe

The Deputy Chief Election Officer Roxanne Myers was taken into Police custody this morning and remains in custody this evening after refusing to answer questions as the Police continue their probe into allegations of electoral fraud.

Myers is being represented by Attorney Nigel Hughes.

The Attorney told News Source that Ms. Myers has been moved to the Beterverwaghting Police lock-ups and has been refused station bail.

He said the only charge put to her is obstruction of justice because of her decision to exercise her right not to answer any questions posed to her.

In the past weeks, the Guyana Police Force has been taking a number of senior GECOM officials into custody to question them about allegations of electoral fraud.

The police recently recommended charges against the Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield, who is already facing private criminal charges in relation to the same election probe.

The private charges were filed by political representatives of the People’s Progressive Party and the New Movement party. The DPP has taken over the case.

Charges have also been filed against the Returning Officer for Region Four Clairmont Mingo.
