A Guyana Defence Force Rank was today placed on $70,000 bail after he was charged with being in possession of 15 grammes of Marijuana.
25-year-old Troyston Cort, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleded not guilty to the offence.
The Court was told that on the 23rd March, at Stabroek Market, Police on patrol conducted a search on the defendant and the quantity of marijuana was found in his pockets while another set of the same illegal item was found in some zip lock bags in his backpack.
Attorney Patrice Henry,who represented the soldier, immediately made his application for bail just after the charge was read.
He told the Court that on the day in question, the marijuana was never found in his client’s possession.
The GDF rank was placed on $70,000 bail and he will make his next court appearance on 10th April, 2017.
