Police investigators on the East Coast of Demerara are probing the murder of 36-year-old Ray Sheoraj aka “Redman” of Supply in Mahaica.

The man died late on Monday night after being chopped to the leg by a 62-year-old relative, who has since gone on the run.

A Police report on the incident stated that it occurred at around 11pm on Monday. The victim and the alleged assailant lived in the same yard.

The Police said Ray Sheoraj was at home in the company of a group of friends when an argument broke out between him and the elderly relative.

During the altercation, the elderly relative allegedly inflicted an injury to the left leg of Sheoraj with a sharp object.

The injured man attempted to secure the wound but collapsed in the upper flat of the home. He was rushed to the Enmore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival

The Police said a cutlass and a chopper, suspected to have been used in the incident, were recovered at the scene. The 62-year-old suspect is still to be located, after running fleeing the scene of the crime.

Two other persons who were at the house at the time of the incident are being questioned by the Police, and investigators said a 29-year-old woman who was also present during the attack has been left nursing minor injuries.

The probe is ongoing.
