A former Policeman has once again landed himself on the other side of the law and could find himself before the Court before the end of this week facing illegal firearm and drug possession charges.
Businessman and former Police Cadet Officer, Franz Paul, was arrested by the Police on Tuesday evening along Vlissengen Road in the vicinity of the Square of the Revolution.
In a statement, the Police said its ranks tracked down Paul as they were acting on information received.
The 39-year-old man was found as the lone occupant in his Honda Vezel vehicle. He was told by the ranks that they were in receipt of information that he had narcotics, arms and ammunition in his possession.
A search of the man unearthed a .22 pistol with a magazine containing two live rounds of ammunition in his pants pocket.
During a search of the vehicle, the Police said the ranks discovered a large garbage bag on the floor behind the front passenger seat. In the bag, the investigating ranks found two bulky parcels containing marijuana leaves, seeds and stems.
Paul was told of the offences committed and cautioned. He was then escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station along with the suspected narcotics, firearm, ammunition, and the vehicle, where the vehicle was photographed and lodged.
The Police said the firearm was processed for latent fingerprints, but none was detected. It has since been taken to the Forensic lab for ballistic testing.
The total weight of the marijuana found amounted to 4.9 pounds.
Paul remains in custody pending charges.
In 2019, while he was still a serving member of the Police Force, Paul was charged with the shooting of a 15-year-old boy with an unlicensed firearm and making threats against another person.
