Police Investigators have traveled to the Upper Demerara River community of 33 Miles, Kurupukari to probe the murder of businessman Johnny Ragubeer.
The man reportedly operated a grocery shop in the area and was found dead on Tuesday, a short distance away from his shop.
In a statement, the Police said the body was discovered by a gold miner and two other persons who were traveling through the area on their way to Brazil. The gold miner reported the discovery to the Police at Mabura.
The businessman was found with wounds to his neck, his head and back.
A businesswoman who operates a shop in the community reported to Police that she last saw the businessman alive on Monday night when she stopped at his shop along with her two children. She reported that at the time, the man was having a drink with a labourer from the area who later left.
The woman told investigators that the businessman followed her and her children home and returned to his shop. He was found dead the following midday.
Police investigators said they discovered a black plastic bag next to the dead man’s body. That bag contiained marijuana leaves, seeds, and stems. The man’s cellphone was also discovered close to his body.
The labourer, who the woman told Police was with the businessman earlier on Monday, has since been arrested and is being questioned.
A post-mortem examination is to be conducted on the body, as the investigation continues.
