There are now over 2300 active cases of COVID-19 in Guyana with 2,269 of those active cases recovering at home. The death toll in the country climbed to 641 over the weekend and there are 33 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

The number of new cases of the virus has been climbing steadily with no slowing down as the government’s main focus appears to be on further pushing its vaccination drive.

In the past three days alone, Guyana has recorded 559 new cases of the virus. Since the start of September, a total of 16 deaths have been recorded in four days.

As schools reopen for face-to-face learning today for primary and nursery school students, parents and teachers are being encouraged to ensure all safety measures and guidelines are being followed.

The Minister of Health has revealed that it is clear that the faster spreading Delta variant of the virus is in Guyana. It is the same variant that continues to claim thousands of lives globally.
