25-year-old Brian Bobb-semple was today sentenced to 23 years in prison for the killing of 9-year-old Shaquan Gittens.
The lifeless body of the youngster was found in the Houston cane field days after he went missing back in 2015.
Bobb-semple had been charged for murder and was committed to stand a High Court trial. However, he entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter and today justice Sandil Kissoon handed down the jail sentence.
Just after he was arrested for the crime, investigators were of the view that he was mentally unstable, however, a psychiatric evaluation deemed him fit to stand trial.
The disappearance of the 9-year-old boy had gripped the nation during frantic searches for him. His body was found semi-nude floating in a canal in the cane field.
The convict admitted to grabbing the youngster and taking him to the cane field where he sexually assaulted him and eventually murdered him. It was also suspected that he continued to perform sex acts on the boy’s body even after the murder.
