62 pounds of Marijuana found stashed in Mahdia bus spare wheels; Three in custody

The driver of a Route-72 mini-bus, which plies the Georgetown-Mahdia route, and two passengers are in custody following the discovery of 62 pounds of compressed marijuana in the spare wheels of the bus.

In a statement this morning, the Guyana Police Force said the bus was stopped at the Mabura outpost after Officers received information that needed to be investigated.

The driver and two female passengers were the only occupants of the bus when it was stopped.

The Police Force said that upon searching, it was observed that there were two wheels strapped to the roof of the bus and a further investigation of the two wheels revealed 28 bulky packages hidden in them.

The packages were removed and the contents were found to be marijuana that weighed a total of 62 pounds.

The driver, who lives in Linden, and the two passengers were immediately arrested and are assisting with the probe.
