Building Expo 2023 planned for August 24 – 27

Looking further set the stage for the building boom taking place in many parts of the country, the Ministry of Housing and Water will be hosting the 2023 Building Expo from the 24th to the 27th August at the Providence Stadium.

Last year’s event, brought together scores of construction companies, building suppliers, commercial banks and hundreds of prospective homeowners.

This year’s event will further cater to the plans and needs of those persons seeking to build their own homes.

At the launching of the 2023 Building Expo on Friday evening, Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, said this year’s event will offer opportunities for all, from the homebuilder to the contractor and the business community.

“We are looking forward to showcasing the diversity of this sector. And so this national event, will showcase innovation, new products, critical to ensuring that the progress and development trajectory continues…and so in collaboration with key stakeholders within this industry, and they all can tell you from their experience last year that it has paid great grievances”, Minister Croal said.

He noted that a big part of the event will focus on jobs in the construction sector, since there is a shortage of labour for the sector, with the building boom that is taking place in the country at the moment.

The organisers of the event are hoping to attract more than 100 exhibitors in the building industry. Already, more than 30 companies have already signed up for the event.

Minister Croal explained that several new housing schemes are being opened up, as new roadways are being built along the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara. The Eccles to Great Diamond road, which is currently under construction, is slated to be completed within months, thereby opening up more lands for residential and commercial purposes.

Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, noted that the upcoming building expo will also bring together all of the major financial and lending institutions to assist new house lot owners, on their way to home construction and home ownership.

She said “it is very important to move our people, our Guyanese from land owners to homeowners and that’s why you see this extra effort to ensure we get people into homes”.

Minister Rodrigues said the housing and building boom will continue, and the Housing Ministry and its partners will continue their work to ensure development across the housing sector.

The Building Expo organisers have indicated that they want this year’s event to be more than a sales pitch for local businesses, but instead they want it to be an informative event that will guide persons seeking to begin the home construction journey.
