Incoming Parliamentary Leader for A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Dr Terrence Campbell believes there is value in the opposition parties working together at the level of the National Assembly to hold the Government’s feet to the fire.
In an interview that will air this Sunday on SOURCES, Dr Campbell said as the third force in the National Assembly, it is imperative for the three opposition parties heading into the National Assembly to band together on issues of national importance.
Electoral Reform, he said, is among the issues that he wants the opposition to press the Government on.
“We are going to talk about elections; we are going to talk about electoral reform. In electoral reform we are going to talk about things like biometrics, access to media, biometrics. I think electoral reform is an important issue which the entire opposition should come together,” Dr Campbell said.
Dr Campbell, however, made it clear that whether or not the WIN party and Forward Guyana Movement join forces with the APNU in the House, the APNU Members of Parliament will be a fighting force, even with their reduced number of seats.
He said MPs are coming well prepared to champion national issues in the House, and if there is any attempt by the Government to derail the APNU’s parliamentary agenda, they will amplify their positions using various platforms outside of the Assembly.

“Members of Parliament by virtue of being Member of Parliament have that standing and they must now use that to push the government. So, if we are not getting traction on our legislative agenda within the house, then we will come to the public and we will explain to the public what it is we are trying to get done, how does it benefit them. So, the fight to contribute to national development and moving Guyana forward, will take place in and out of parliament,” he said.
Dr. Campbell said on the issue of foreign policy, particularly in relation to Venezuela, the APNU stands committed to working with the Government and the other opposition parties to safeguard Guyana’s territorial integrity. He said Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non negotiable.
