The Change Guyana party today picked up support from national rugby player Ryan Dey, a resident of Linden who works in the forestry sector.
In addressing the press at the party’s weekly press conference, Dey said he feels as a youth, a sportsman and a Lindener, both the previous and current governments have failed him and his town.
He said the major political parties have only made promises which are still to be delivered. Dey believes its time to change to Change Guyana.
According to him, Lindeners take pride in leading sport in all disciplines but he said that the town continues to be denied equal access to resources and equipment to advance and nurture the talent of youths.
“Looking at Linden, I think to myself what has happened to our beautiful town? With all the promises made by both political parties and they never deliver. It is time to change. It is time I chose to change. It is time for Change Guyana,” he stated.
Dey said he feels that the Change Guyana party has experienced people with a wealth of knowledge in investment and finance that could be used to push Guyana forward, especially Linden.
He said a sound economic plan for Linden and the entire country is badly needed.
“Have you ever asked yourself, how come we have so many natural resources that can rake in billions of dollars each year but we are still poor? That is because our leader failed to promote this country for them gem it is. Have no fear, because it isn’t near, change is here,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Ministerial Candidate of Change Guyana Nigel Hinds said having sat with Presidential Candidate Robert Badal to review the promises made by both major political parties in Guyana, they came to the realization that many of the promises made to Linden were never fulfilled.
He noted that many of these promises are regurgitated every election cycle, like building the Linden to Lethem road. Hinds noted that while there are no problems with the plans, politicians from both major parties have a problem implementing these very projects and plans they speak of.
“The challenge is to change region 10 from an economically depressed community to one that enjoys accelerated and economic development is to be overcome by leadership that implements and executes promises made, instead of a trail of broken promises, decade after decade.”
On the other hand, Badal criticized both parties for promising also to build an aluminum factor and a wood processing facility, when they have not made any initial effort to start the process.
“Under Change Guyana, Linden will become a special economic zone based on the processing of value-added wood products for exports. Secondly, that facility will be exactly in Linden with an impressive wharf facility and thirdly no logs will enter Georgetown on that except through the waterways.”
The presidential candidate promised that Change Guyana will ensure that there is a special levy on all logs exported in its raw state and that money will be spent only in Linden.
