Female Cop denies cavity search of teenage girl at Ogle Airport

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility has launched a probe into the allegation made by a 17-year-old girl that a female Police officer carried out a cavity search on her, while she was an outgoing passenger at the Eugene F Correia Airport at Ogle.

In a brief statement today, the Guyana Police Force announced the investigation by the OPR, but also stated that in a statement, the female police rank denied carrying out any cavity search on the teenager.

The teenager in a statement of her own claims that she was taken to a private room at the airport and made to remove her underwear as the rank from Police Narcotics carried out a finger search of her vagina.

The young lady said she was embarrassed by the ordeal and complained about it to family members.  At first, family members thought that the rank was working with the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, but that Unit quickly denied any involvement and pointed fingers straight at Police Narcotics.

The girl’s family has since called for a full probe.

Cavity searches would usually have to be carried out at medical institutions by medical officers. At the airports, if suspected of carrying cocaine in their private parts, female passengers would be made to  squat and cough, but no cavity searches would be conducted at the airport.

The probe into the incident is ongoing.
