Flood warning issued more consistent rainfall and thunderstorms expected

The Hydromet Office has issued flood warnings for several parts of the country as more heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in the coming days.

Several parts of the city are under floodwaters following overnight and early morning rainfall.

On Monday, there was also flooding in several areas.

The National Flood Task Force visited a number of pump sites yesterday and found all of the city’s drainage systems to be working.

In a statement last evening, the Task Force said the rainfall in Georgetown on Monday was more than 3.5 inches during a six-hour period.

The Hydromet Service is forecasting frequent rainfall along the coastland over the next 12 hours. The Flood Task Force said all relevant agencies are on standby to respond to any impacts or hindrances.

Residents countrywide are advised to remain observant and take all necessary precautions during this time.

“All impacts should be reported to local authorities or the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 600-7500 at any time”, a statement from the Task Force said.
