Ganga says it wasn’t me in response to sex allegations

Minister of Local Government, Ganga Persaud who last week announced his resignation from the post is denying claims that the reason for his resignation is as a result of allegations of a sexual relationship with a minor.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, Persaud described the reports as false, malicious and libelous. Persaud said the allegations are causing harm to his family.

He said “I wish to make it abundantly and unequivocally clear that I have had no sexual relations with any minor as is alleged or at all. Neither was such an allegation raised or discussed  with me by His Excellency, President Donald Ramotar.”

The outgoing Minister of Local Government also indicated that he has instructed his attorneys to proceed with litigation against any person or organisations making the libelous claims.

The Minister on Thursday announced that he will be stepping down from office from the end of January. He said the decision is as a result of personal reasons. Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee on Monday confirmed that Ganga Persaud was asked by the President to resign saying that the matter behind the resignation is a very sensitive one.
