Ex-GDF Chief of Staff and APNU+AFC Candidate, retired Rear Admiral Gary Best today announced that he is suspending all appearances at campaign events in wake of the fatal accident that he was involved in.
Best, who is currently on station bail, while the Police investigations continue, issued a statement through his Attorneys, expressing remorse over the accident that claimed the life of national cyclist, Jude Bentley.
Bentley was riding his bicycle during an early morning training session along the East Coast roadway when the vehicle that was being driven by Best, slammed into him. He was pronounced dead on the spot.
A breathalyzer test found that Mr. Best was over the legal limit for alcohol while operating a vehicle.
In his statement today, the former Chief of Staff said he is suspending his campaign out of reverence for the accident victim and respect for his family.
“This will also allow the investigations to proceed fairly, professionally and without hints of interference. Once again, to the family of Jude Bentley, my heart pains me for your loss, which I deeply regret and wish you can find strength in the Lord at this most difficult time. I will continue to uplift you all up in my prayers”, Best said.
