Gary Best to be charged with causing death and driving under the influence

The Director of Public Prosecutions has advised the Police to charge former GDF Chief of Staff Gary Best with causing death by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle while breath and alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit.

The file was returned to the Police on Wednesday evening after advice was sought from the DPP.

The retired Chief of Staff was initially arrested just after the early morning accident that claimed the life of cyclist Jude Bentley.  Best was however granted station bail while the investigation was being conducted.

Bentley was riding his racing cycle early in the morning when Best who was driving his 4×4 pick-up in the same direction slammed into him.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been calling for justice in the matter.  Best was forced to suspend his campaigning for the APNU+AFC as he was one of their candidates for the upcoming elections.

He could find himself in Court either later today or tomorrow.
