Guyanese miners found murdered in neighbouring Venezuela at mining camp

Police investigators in Guyana intend to contact their counterparts in neighbouring Venezuela as a probe begins into the shooting death of three Guyanese gold miners in the neighbouring country.

The three dead miners have been identified as 19-year-old Samuel Moses, 23-year-old, Cologne Solomon and 55-year-old Vernon Eudoxie.

According to the Guyana Police Commander for the area, Snr. Superintendent Ravindradat Budram, the men were found shot to death in a mining camp in neighbouring Venezuela close to the Guyana border in an area known as Imataka.

He said the bodies were brought across to Guyana and are at Port Kaituma. They are to be flown to the city for post mortem examination.

A fourth man who is believed to have survived the attack, was found with injuries. He is expected to be flown to Georgetown for medical care today.

It is believed that the men were working along with the Brazilian owner of the mining camp when the camp came under attack on Wednesday by a suspected Venezuelan gang.

It is believed that the same gang has been raiding other mining camps on both the Guyana and Venezuelan sides.

Miners in Cuyuni have reported raids on mining camps by a group of heavily armed men, who all spoke spanish and appeared to be from Venezuela.

Investigations into the incidents have been launched.
