Lands and Surveys Commission scales down operations after staff members contract COVID

At least three staff members of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission have tested positive for Covid-19, News Source understands.

The Commission has since scaled back operations after learning of the positive tests last week.

Following the positive test of one staff member, the agency instructed all its staff to undergo a Covid19 test before returning to work. It was then that it was discovered that two other staff had contracted the virus, well-placed sources confirmed.

According to one source, staffers the Commission are dissatisfied with the way management has been handling the situation, pointing out that information on the persons who tested positive has not been forthcoming.

“At least if they don’t want to name names, they can tell us which department they are from so that we are aware.” One staff member said adding that staff must be informed so that they can also keep their family safe.

Once management fails to provide information on those positive, staff at the Commission plan not to return to work.

With about six large departments, the Commission has ordered all its staff members to return to work, with only a few being on rotation.

The Commission has employed a number of safety measures.
