A 32-year-old gold miner from Linden, was hacked to death at an interior mining camp and his younger brother, who also worked as a miner, has been left fighting for his life.
The two were attacked by another miner.
According to information from the Aurora mining area in Region Seven, the two brothers were viciously attacked and chopped at the Hopkinson Mining Camp in Aurora during the early hours of this morning.
The dead man has been identified as 32-year-old Raphael Cadogan. The injured younger brother’s name has been given as Clive Cadagon.
Police Commander of Region Seven, Senior Superintendent Dion Moore told News Source that his division received a report of the “chopping incident” and police investigators left earlier today for the scene of the incident.
When contacted by News Source, the mining camp’s owner Shawn Hopkinson confirmed that the incident took place at the Aurora location.
The victims’ sister, Rochelle Cadogan, told News Source that based on information received her brother Raphael succumbed to his injuries, while Clive is critical.
Rochelle said based on what she was told by Clive, the chopping incident stemmed from an argument that took place on Monday during a football match.
It is alleged that the younger brother and the assailant had an argument on Monday and the assailant got physical resulting in the older brother, Raphael, intervening.
The older brother told the man who was attacking his brother that he should desist from hitting his brother. In response, the man turned his attention to the older brother and the two men got into an argument. The two brothers eventually the area to go sleep.
It was while they were sleeping that they were both attacked by the same man they had faced off with earlier.
“The man was let into the camp and the first person he attacked was my little brother Clive. He dealt a chop to Clive’s neck…Clive was on a bed,” the grieving sister said.
Clive reportedly ran to his brother Raphael for help but he too was also attacked.
“When Raphael opened his eyes, the man was already chopping Raphael. Raphael was dealt with so many chops about his body that he could not have survived. The distance, when he reached Gold Field, he succumbed. Clive is fighting for his life, the chop that Clive got, he is fighting for his life,” Rochelle said.
At the time of the interview, attempts were being made to rush Clive out of the interior to get medical attention.
“They can’t find no flight, so right now they are hustling to bring him through the river. So, I am keeping in God’s prayer that my brother makes it,” she said.
The matter is under police investigation.
