A 26-year-old boat builder was stabbed to death and his brother was badly injured late on Saturday night in an attack at the Vreed-en-hoop stelling.

Dead is Sigmol Gouveia, while the injured brother has been identified as Neville Gouveia.

According to Police report, the two brothers were at the stelling when the boat builder objected to the use of an area by a group of men who arrived by boat.

A row started between the boat builder and the suspect and it was during that confrontation that the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the man to the abdomen.

The boat builder’s brother who was in the same area at the time, rushed to his brother’s aid but he too was attacked and stabbed.

He sustained wounds to one of his arms and his chest.

The suspect left the scene in the same boat that took him to the area, while the two injured brothers were rushed to the nearby West Demerara Hospital.

The younger brother, Sigmol Gouveia was pronounced dead on arrival while the older brother, Neville, was hospitalised with his injuries.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested at Vreed-en-hoop yesterday. The investigations into the deadly incident are ongoing.
