Lowenfield arrested and granted station bail on criminal conduct allegations

Already facing private criminal charges in the Court in relation to allegations of electoral fraud, the Guyana Police Force today announced that it arrested Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield on allegations of criminal conduct related to the March elections.

The Police Force said the GECOM CEO was arrested at the CID Headquarters at Eve Leary and several allegations were presented to him in the presence of his Attorney.

According to the Police, after being told of the allegations, Mr. Lowenfield exercised his right to remain silent.

A confrontation was held between him and a witness and once again Mr. Lowenfield opted to remain silent, the statement added.

Lowenfueld was released on station bail and asked to report back to the Police CID headquarters again on Monday.

The Chief Election Officer was charged back in July and appeared in Court back then to answer those private criminal charges that were filed by a member of the PPP and a member of the New Movement Party.

His Attorney has since asked the DPP to withdraw the private charges but the DPP has not moved in that direction but has instead asked the police to conduct a comprehensive probe.

The case based on the private charges has been slowly crawling its way through the Court.
