A foreign medical student studying in Guyana has been left counting his losses after he was robbed of his car, mobile phone, and other personal belongings at gunpoint.
Police investigators are reviewing several pieces of video recordings that they hope could lead to the perpetrators.
The incident occurred at around 12:30 this morning in the West Ruimveldt community near the Ascension Primary School.
The medical student Ikechukwu Otiko, who worked as a part-time taxi driver told investigators that he picked up one of the perpetrators who was posing as a passenger around midnight along Sherriff Street.
The man requested to be taken to Ice House road in West Ruimveldt. When he reached the location, the victim said his car was approached by two other men when he stopped and they all pointed guns at him and demanded that he exited the car.
When he initially refused, he was lashed several times to the face by the gunmen and was forced out of the car, according to the Police report.
The three men made off in the car with the victim’s phone and his other valuables including $40,000 in cash. He eventually made his way to a nearby Police station where a report was filed.
The stolen car is a silver-grey Toyota Allion which was registered as PNN-2975. It was valued at $1.3 million.
A full investigation is underway by the Police.
