Nigel Hinds accuses Government of unfair governance practices during London talk

The apparent fallout between Chartered Accountant and former political hopeful Nigel Hinds and some government officials seems to be growing with Hinds now taking on the Guyana government on claims of discrimination against afro- Guyanese.

Mr. Hinds and Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh went head-to-head last week trading words, with the Finance Minister declaring that Hinds is really looking after his self-interest and that his recent statements had nothing to do with the state of afro- Guyanese.

But in a video recorded in Hyde Park London, Hinds told a group of Guyanese nationals that Guyana cannot move forward if the issue of race is not addressed head on.

“What is going on in Guyana is wholly unacceptable, we have become so divided, we have become so filled with friction and animosity that we have literally become a multi-racist society, one where the leadership doesn’t consider themselves of leading Guyana but leading some demographic or group,” Hinds could be heard saying in the video.

Hinds was one of the co-founders of Change Guyana, which was one of the political parties that contested the 2020 General and Regional Elections, but disappeared just after.

In the aftermath of elections, Hinds was on the forefront calling for the APNU+AFC to respect the results of the elections and for the swearing in of the new government. He does not appear too happy with the performance of the new administration.

“The situation is getting worse, particularly now for the African-Guyanese where this current administration led by the People’s Progressive Party and we have to take a stand against this not just for African Guyanese but for all Guyanese and it is time that the petty and ad hominem attacks are not allowed,” Hinds declared.

The Chartered accountant also said the government has an opportunity to show that can govern in the interest of all Guyanese.

“We cannot have a budget where 90% of one demographic group beenfits and the other group gets 10%” Hinds said.

The Government has been rubbishing recent statements from various opposition and political figures which have accused it of not governing fairly.
