Police investigations are continuing their probe into the shooting death of 24-year-old Carlos Waithe early this morning.

A suspect is still to be identified as the probe widens.

The youth was shot in Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust as he reportedly sought peace between a group of men and one of his friends who were involved in a confrontation.

In a statement, the Police explained that the youth worked as a clothes vendor and was in the Leopold Street area at around 4 o’clock this morning when one of his friends got into a confrontation with a group of men.

Waithe and his friends were reportedly wrapping up a night of partying that started in Charlestown and was ending in Leopold Street.

The Police report said after one of the youth’s friends got into the confrontation with a group of men, the friend ran away from the area with the men chasing behind him.

Waithe apparently ran behind them after hearing gunshots and pleading with them not to shoot his friend.

The Police said persons in the area heard two additional shots and saw Waite collapsing to the ground as the group of men ran from the scene.

Confused persons attempted to resuscitate him but their efforts failed as he never regained consciousness and was left on the roadway for several minutes. The Police said he was eventually taken to the Woodlands Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The dead man’s family believes there may be more to his shooting death than him just trying to be a peacemaker. He is well known in the area as he visited often to play cards and party at the various street events.

The family members of the dead youth are calling for a thorough investigation and they are also hoping that persons who may have witnessed the cime to provide a statement to the Police before the case goes unsolved.
