The Guyana Police Force is currently studying video recordings of the aftermath of that fatal accident at Agricola on Saturday and intends to file criminal charges against the persons who attacked the driver of the truck that was involved in the accident.
A 7-year-old girl lost her life when the truck slammed into her as she stood with an aunt at the median of the busy four lane roadway.
The driver of the truck was badly beaten by angry residents. This afternoon, Police Commissioner Leslie James told reporters that he does not intend to encourage vigilante justice and the Force will go after those who attacked the driver.
He said while it is understood that some persons might have become angry and irritated by the fatal accident, they had no right to attack the driver, but rather should have allowed the Police investigators to do their job.
The Commissioner said the Police Force is currently seeking the identities of some of the attackers who were caught on camera and the Force intends to go after them and have criminal charges filed.
He warned the public that the Force has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to vigilante justice.
